Camera Skills

Before going out filming we need to make sure that the camera is working correctly and we have all the correct equipment needed for the production. We need to check the following when going to collect the camera:
  • A tripod plate
  • The Batteries are charged
  • A head cleaning tape, to clean the camera so that we dont have any black lines going across the screen when filming
  • Lint free material to clean the lens
  • Shoot some test footage before leaving and check the quality

Handheld techniques

When out filming we may need to use handheld when filming, so to acheive a smooth and professional finish to our footage we can use these techniques:

  • Use chairs for supporting the camera
  • Use car roofs for also supporting the camera
  • Your body; knees, shoulders to steady and support the camera
  • Hold cam into body and rotate from hips

Before taking a shot we need to make sure that:

  • Use manual settings-shutter speed, focus
  • Clean the lens
  • Set the white balance. As the white balance needs to be set differently when being filmed under flourscent lighting and under natural light.
  • Test shoot and review the footage taken
  • Then take the shot when everything is checked

Digipacks

Digipak

Promo Pack

A promo pack is used for telling the media about the artist/band by using promotional materials. A promo pack normally consists of the following:

  • Information about the artist/band
  • A photo of the artist/band

  • A fact sheet

  • Write ups and/or press releases

  • A demo tape, which consists of a variety of songs

  • A song list

  • A lyric sheet
The video and digipak must be linked in some way so that the audience are familiar with features such as images, typography etc which will represent the products and then the audience will be able to make a link between the music video and the digipak, so when if the audience have seen the video they will be familiar with the digipak as it will have used similiar colours, images and typograhy, which were used in the music video.

Digipak

A digipak is a type of CD packaging which is made out of card or cardboard and then the CD part is made out of plastic, which holds the CD. It can either open up like a book or can often be made up of three different parts, so that the CD is in the middle and then the rest of the packaging opens up on the right and the left. The name Digipak is a trademark of the company MeadWestvaco who first created the product, but since the product became so popular lots of other companies have started to produce their own 'digipaks'. Digipack's have also become popular, due to that they are much stronger than orginal CD cases and also in some cases will also look better, which will make people buy it.

The image on the right shows an example of a digipak which I have found on Google Images. The picture shows how the digipak is laid out. As you can see the CD part is made of plastic and then the rest of the digipack is made of card.

Examples of digipacks

Below I have researched some digipacks which are in the same genre as my song and artist, so that I am able to see what type of layout, images, colours and typography they use for this genre, so that they appeal to the target audience.

The first digipak which I have looked at is by another artist who is in the same genre, Mariah Carey: Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel.

The image on the left shows the front cover of the digipak. http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/10536392/Memoirs-Of-An-Imperfect-Angel/Product.html Here is the link where the image is from.

Colour

The colours which are used on the digipak are very simple colours. The background colour is white, so that the font and the images stand out and contrast against the background. The colours are also quite girly, which appeal to the target audience as most girls are associated with liking Mariah Carey. The colour of her dress is a light pink, which is also simple and girly, which fits in well with the rest of the colour scheme. The font is coloured black so that it is easy to read and because it is Mariah Carey's name it needs to stand out, as people are familiar with her name. The title of the song is in gold, which is also a girly colour.

Layout

The layout is simple and there is not too much going on the cover. They have also kept to the theme of being simple as her dress is very simple as it is only a pale colour and there is no patterns on the dress. The cover has Mariah Carey as the main focus as people will be most familiar with her and therefore they will recognise and may by the CD if they are a fan of her. She is posing confidently and looks happy, she also looks quite girly, which appeals to the target audience. The font is placed at the top because it is easy to see, so that people can see that it is Mariah Carey

Typography

The font is a sans serif font to keep the cover looking simple and modern, as if a serif font was used it would make the CD cover look older, which would not appeal to the younger target audience. The name of the CD is in a formal and girly font, so that it fits in with the rest of the CD.

The second digipack I have researched is one by Lady Gaga: The Fame Monster.

The image on the left shows the digipack cover. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fame-Monster-International-Digipack/dp/B002T4G7TI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1259326332&sr=8-3-fkmr0 the link shows where I found the cover.

Colours

There is no bright colours used on the digipack cover, the only colour which is used is black. By using just the colour black it creates a scary and gothic feel to the cover. The text is quite hard to read, but has a white outline going around the text so that it makes it easier to read. The background is a lighter shade a black (almost a grey colour) so that Lady Gaga and the text stands.
Layout

Like the previous digipack cover above, the layout is also very simple so that it is not too distracting and so that it is also clear to see who the artist's CD it is, in this case Lady Gaga. The main part of the cover is Lady Gaga herself so that people will recognise who the artist is. Your eye is mostly drawn to her face and her black hair, her eye is crying black tears which will catch the audiences attention, making them want to look at the CD. The text is quite hard to read as it blends in with her hair and it is placed at the bottom of the cover which also makes it quite hard to read, I think they have done this because they want the main attention to be on the image of Lady Gaga as it is quite unusual for example she is crying black tears.

Typography

The font is a simple, bold sans serif font as its easy and clear to read and also it keeps the CD cover modern whereas a serif font would not keep it modern, instead it would make it look old and old fashioned. The font has a white outline which makes it easier to read, but I feel that they want you to have the main focus on Lady Gaga as she looks unusual and also people will recognise her and if they are fans they may want to buy the CD.

Digipack flat plans

Below I have designed three flat plans of digipacks which I have scanned in. I am going to analyse each of my designs and decide which design is my final digipack design. Unfortunately when I scanned in these digipacks the colours did not come out as well as I wanted them to, so the colours have not turned out that well and as bright as I wanted them to be.

The image on the left shows my first digipack design.

Colours

The colours which I have used in this design are quite girly colours, so that it appeals to the target audience and also on her album cover It's not me it's you she uses a girly colour scheme.

When the image was scanned the colour was lost on the stars which were orginally pink. I used the colour pink because I wanted to have the same theme as her album cover, which shows her lying on a pink, letter L and also from research Lily Allen often uses quite girly colour schemes. I have chosen to have the background colour white, so that the rest of the content on the cover stands out. The model on the cover (Lily Allen) is dressed in bright clothes so that she is the main focus on the cover. The text is in black so that it stands out against the white background and so that people can see the song name and also see that it is by Lily Allen.

Layout

I wanted to keep the layout simple so that it was easy to see that it was Lily Allen and also her album cover is simple. I had the title of the song and Lily Allen's name printed horizontally so that it was still easy to see Lily Allen and also to make the layout quite different. On the back cover I will have the writing printed either side of Lily Allen, so that the audience are still clear to see Lily Allen.

Design

I decided to use Lily Allen with a star because it would come across as being fun and as her target audience are mainly young people, I thought that as a star was used it would appeal to them as it will make the album cover fun. From looking at other digipacks the main design was having the artist posing on the front cover. I have kept the same theme throughout the digipack so that it looked professional. I also used the star throughout the digipack with Lily Allen posing in different positions, so that it was kept the same throughout the digipack. I wanted to make the digipack fun and interesting so that it appealed to the target audience. I have made Lily Allen pose in fun ways so that it makes the digipack fun and cool, so that it appeals to the target audience. I will also be using a sans serif font to keep the digipack modern, as I feel if a serif font will make the digipack old fashioned and therefore not appealing to the target audience.

The image on the right shows the second digipack which I have designed.

Colours

As this design is locations in Brighton, the colours will be mainly daylight colours. The font is coloured black so that stands out against the rest of the digipack.

Layout

The layout is also very simple and easy to understand as I will be using photos of locations in Brighton. The text on the front cover is placed at the bottom as I feel that this will be easiest to read for the audience. The text on the back cover will be placed over the image, which will still be easy to read, I may lighten the image slightly if the text is hard to read.

Design

In this digipack I wanted it to relate to the music video as much as possible, seeings as our music video is being shot in Brighton I have decided to use this as the main theme on my digipack by using different locations in brighton for the digipack. I will use main and important locations so that the audience are able to tell that the cover is Brighton. On the front cover I will have Brighton Pier, as I feel that most people will be familiar with this location and it is also a main location for our video, on the back cover I will have the lanes, another location people will be familiar with and on the inside cover I will have a shot of a park in Brighton which people may be familiar with. The text in this digipack will also be a sans serif font as it is modern and easy to read.

The image on the left shows my final and third digipack design.

Colour

On this digipack I wanted to make it interesting and different. The background and the objects, people, buildings etc will all be coloured in black and white and I will have Lily Allen the only part in colour on the part of the album cover. The text will be in black, eventhough this will blend in with the background I want Lily Allen to be the main focus on the album cover. I will have Lily Allen dressed in bright coloured clothes which will make her stand out even more from the black and white background. I think that this design will make the digipack stand out as the colours will contrast with the rest of the black and white imagery.

Layout

The layout for this design is again simple, as most digipacks are quite simple. The main focus of the design will be of Lily Allen so that the audience are able to see who the CD is of and so that her fans will also notice her.

Design

Overall I wanted to make quite a different and unusual design, as the song is quite different from her other songs as this song is quite serious, whereas her other songs are quite funny. I will have Lily Allen the only thing on the digipack in colour, so that she is the main focus of the design. By doing this design it is unusual and different, which is like our music video, so I wanted to keep the same theme throughout. I also think that this design will catch the audiences eye as it is different and fun. On the front cover I will have Lily Allen walking down the street with the rest of the background in black and white and then on the inside cover I will have the same image but from the back off Lily Allen, I think that this create and fun and interesting effect. This design is simple, but I think that it will be effective as it will catch the audience's attention as it is quite different and unusual.

Final digipack decision

Overall I am pleased with all my designs and I think that they will all work effectively as they are appealing to the target audience.

My final design that I will be using will be my second digipack, with all the different locations in Brighton. I think that this design is simple and interesting. I also think that it is best linked in with my music video and by keeping the same theme in the music video and the digipack it will allow the audience to become familiar with the design, as they have already seen it in the music video. From also researching other digipacks most of the designs are quite simple, so that it is clear to see who the artist is.

Mise-en-scene and Storyboards

In this blog I will be looking at how mise-en-scene will be used in our music video.

Setting/Location
We have decided to set our music video in Brighton. We have some locations for example along the beach and in some streets in brighton. We have decided to set our music video in Brighton, because it is a city and because our video is about drug taking, it is often known to be taken more in cities than in rural areas and cities are also associated with young people.
This location will appeal to the target audience because our target audience is young people and young people will be more appealed to a modern, city setting, than a rural setting, as rural settings can come across as boring and not really associated with young people, than cities are. Also young people will find that having some of the video filmed on the beach and the pier, it will make the video interesting, as they will find the beach and the pier appealing as I feel these locations are linked with young people.

We will also have some of the music video shot in a TV room, which will just have a white background, with the 'singer' singing into a microphone. We will also have some objects for example playing cards, soft toys etc which will be either dropped over her or will just placed around her and we will also be using coloured lights which will be shone around the room, which will also make it fun and will fit in with the video. From having these shots it will show the singer performing and it will also cut from the other shots in Brighton so that it makes the video more fun and interesting. I decided to take some photographs of some of the locations where we will be setting our music video. The first image above shows Brighton Pier. The second image on the left shows The Lanes in Brighton which will also be a location in our music video.

Costume and make up
The music video will be set in the present day, meaning that the characters in the video will be wearing modern clothing. We will make 'Lily Allen' wear modern clothes, but they are going to be quite scruffy, to show that she looks rough, which shows that she is on drugs and to show that it isn't glamorous.
The make up will be neutral and also quite 'worn' off and smudged to show that she may have been up all night and also to show that she is on drugs, so that she will not take too much care into her appearance.
In Lily Allen's other music video she is often seen as being dressed smartly and in some cases quite girly, but we will be having normal clothes, but they will also be 'different' and will also be quite scruffy and messy looking as she will be on drugs and will not be looking good and by also doing this we will be showing drugs in a negative way, as we will be showing the character as being scruffy and un-tidy and this will also contrast with her other videos.
As we will be filming in Brighton there will be other members of the public, so that we will have other people in the music video wearing modern, everyday clothing, but we will also have our character wearing quite bright clothes so that she contrasts and stands out from the background and other characters.

Use of colour
The colours which will be used will vary. Firstly we want to use bright lights from the pier to show a sense of how she is feeling (drugged) and to make it fun and exciting. We will also use some darker shots, so that it symbolises that drugs are dark and dangerous. Also in the TV room we will be using a white room so that it is simple and it will also make the coloured lighting which will be using show up more and it will make it look more effective.
Unlike other Lily Allen videos, which often use bright colours (for example the video Alfie which uses a very bright colour scheme, which makes the video fun and happy) we will be using in some shots low key lighting and just normal 'daylight' colours (not over the top bright colours) as we want to contrast with Lily Allen's other videos, but we also want to show the mood of the person and because the song is about drugs, it is a serious matter and we wouldn't want to make it fun, by using a bright colour scheme like in the video Alfie. Also by using dark colours in the video we will be showing the audience that drugs are bad, as dark colours are often associated with bad things, whereas bright colours are associated with happy things.
However in the studio room we will be using a simple white background, with bright colours so that it contrasts with the video e..g we will be using coloured lighting, different props etc. This will also make the video fun and it will just contrast with the video as it will not have anything to do with the narrative of the song, it will just be fun for the audience.

Props
The props which will be using will be firstly a cigarette as people are often smoking it can also be associated with 'drug taking'. We will also be using a can of beer, as this can also be associated with drug taking.

We will also take advantage of the other props which may be located around Brighton, as this will show that it is set in an urban setting and may also tell the audience where we are setting the video.
In the TV room part of the video we will be using a selection of diffferent props. Some ideas which we have come up with are for example playing cards, soft toys, confetti etc. we have come up with these ideas as they will make the video fun for the audience, as we plan to have the props being dropped around the performer which will make the video fun and also unusual. By having this part in the video, we will be breaking away from the more serious part of the video (the parts when she is walking around Brighton) and as Lily Allen's videos are quite fun we will be appealing to her target audience, as the video will be fun and interesting to watch and as the song is quite long, it will add something else to watch for the audience which will make it fun and more interesting.

Storyboards

Below are our storyboards, which show the narrative and shots which will be using for our music video.

Above is our first storyboard and it shows the opening six shots of our music video. In the beginning of our music video we want to use some etablishing shots, so that it shows the audience the location. The first shots are on the pier to show the location and then we will have shots of the person (actor) to introduce the artist. The first few shots will be blurry and fast paced so that it is in time with the music and it also shows a 'crazy' and 'hectic' feel to the music video, as we want it to show the person's 'lively' mood as we want to show that she is on drugs. The shots will be of her running around the pier making the background fuzzy and we will also have her spinning round also making the background blurry, so it creates a fast and hectic pace and feel to the video.

Above shows our second storyboard. This is still the first verse of our music video so we will be still using shots of the pier and the character. We will be using a cigarette in this part of the video as it will keep in theme with the video and the character. Also we will be using some close up shots so that we are really able to show her attitude to the audience.

This is our third storyboard sheet. This shows the person on the pier and it shows her buying some doughnuts from the pier. We will be using moslty close up shots to show her face and the doughnut man's face, so we can allow the audience to see their expressions which shows what mood they are in. We will also be using close up shots to view the way in which the doughnuts are made to make it interesting and different.

Above is our fourth storyboard. This part of the song is the chorus, so we are going to cut into a different location where we will have the person performing in a studio room. By doing this we will be making the video interesting as we will be cutting to different shots and we will also be in keeping with the genre of pop, as the artists often mime in other pop music videos. We will be using a diffferent variety of camera movements and shots throughout the chorus. We will have the performer looking very different from how she was looking in Brighton as the person in Brighton is ment to look and messy, as it will show she is on drugs, whereas the performer is just performing the song to the camera.

Above shows our fifth storyboard. This is the beginning of the second verse in the song, so we will be cutting back to the person in Brighton. We will have changed the location to The Lanes in Brighton, so that it makes it seem that she has walked from the pier to the lanes, while the perfomance was taking place during the chorus. We will have a shot of her throwing her empty doughnut bag away which will also show her attiude and it will also show that she doesn't care, as this is the type of character we want to potray.

Friday, 25 September 2009

This is a blog for my A2 media coursework. Me and my group have to produce a music video and I have to complete a dvd cover and an advert for the dvd cover indivdually.

The song that we have chosen is by Lily Allen "Everyone's at it". We decided to choose this song because the lyrics are quite discriptive and we feel that after listening to the song a few times that we had a number of different ideas that could be used in the video. We also feel that we had a lot of good ideas that will make the video fit in very well with the song choice, as the song is about taking drugs, we feel that there is alot of different ideas that can be used in the video.

Below is the link to the song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RuQy8sKKak

Below are the lyrics to the song:

I don’t know much but I know this for curtain
And that is the sun poking its head round the curtain
Now please can we leave?
I’d like to go to bed now
It’s not just the sun that is hurting my head now
I’m not trying to say that I’m smelling of roses
But when will we tire of putting shit up our noses
I don’t like staying up, staying up past the sunlight
It’s meant to be fun and it just doesn’t feel right

(Chorus)
Why can’t we all, all just be honest?
Admit to ourselves that everyone’s on it
From grown politicians to young adolescence
Prescribing themselves anti depressants
Now how can we start to tackle the problem?
If you don’t put your hands up and admit that your on it
Now the kids are in danger, they’re all getting hammered
From what I can see everyone’s at it
Everyone’s at it
Everyone’s at it
Everyone’s at it

i get involved but I’m not advocating
got an opinion, yea your well off the slating
so you’ve got a prescription, yea that makes it legal
finding excuses, is well over whelming with people
you go to the doctor and you need pills for sleeping
if you can convince him then I guess that’s not cheating
see you’re daughters depressed, so get her straight on the Prozac
but little do you know that she already takes crack

(Chorus X2)
Why can’t we all, all just be honest?
Admit to ourselves that everyone’s on it
From grown politicians to young adolescence
Prescribing themselves anti depressants
Now how can we start to tackle the problem?
If you don’t put your hands up and admit that you’re on it
Now the kids are in danger, they’re all getting hammered
From what I can see everyone’s at it
Everyone’s at it
Everyone’s at it
Everyone’s at it

The lyrics are quite descriptive, which has allowed us to come up with a number of different ideas. As the song is about drug taking, I feel that this area can be shown in lots of different ways, which has allowed us as a group to be able to come up with different ideas.

Below are some of our initial ideas:

  • Locations: streets, party, small untidy room, not very nice areas, untidy, dirty, working class areas

  • The lines starting with "I" are sung by a person singing into the camera

  • Flashes of images when song gets faster

  • Party scene with lots of young people taking drugs, Lily Allen will be brightly dressed making her stand out, but not involved with the drug taking

  • Low key lighting-dark, sets a not very nice mood

  • Images of people doing drugs

  • Shot of someone rubbing their nose and someone putting their head down, so makes it not completely clear, but still shows the drug taking

  • Zoom into Lily Allen when shes at the party scene

  • Camera looking at the people doing drugs

  • Sun coming through the curtains, white balance and then cut to a dark and dreary room

  • Shots of young people doing drugs e.g. Chavs are often stereotyped for taking drugs, such as weed

  • Shots of homeless people on the streets as they are also stereotyped for taking drugs

  • Most of the shots will be dark to symbolise a serious and not very nice mood

Below are some of the ideas that we have finalised. The overall idea and theme for our music video is paranoia as this mainly associated with drug taken, therefore we can use this in our music video:

  • Person spinning round/she will be in focus but the background will be out out of focus so that it looks blurry

  • The camera will be looking through a window on Brighton Pier and the sun will be shinning through

  • Point of view shots to show that the audience is the person which is following the character.

  • The ending of the video will be the same shot of her sitting on the bench, so that it shows that she has just imagined her journey.

Target audience

To identify my target audience I have done some research on Lily Allen's Facebook page and her MySpace page, so that I am able to look at what type of people are her fans.

Firstly on her Facebook profile she has over 300,000 fans and are a variety of both boys and girls. Also I have found out that some of her fans are from around the world too, so we would be appealing to a large target audience.

On her MySpace profile she has over 400,000 fans and are also a variety of both boys and girls and not just English based fans too.

From researching her fans on both MySpace and Facebook I have also found that mainly all her fans are the younger generation. I also looked at some magazines which Lily Allen has featured on such as NME, Q, Marie Claire and I found the readers on nrs.co.uk and I was able to find the people which read the magazines, which were all mainly younger people than older people. For example Nme had over 300,000 readers aged 15-44, whereas only 40,000 readers aged over 45 read the magazines, which is shows that Lily Allen has a greater younger fan base than an older one.

From this research I am able to identify my target audience for the music video. Firstly I can establise that my target audience is both boys and girls, so we have to make the music video appeal to both, so for example we will not be using a pink colour scheme just to appeal to girls, we will have to use the correct colours, imagery, shots etc so that it appeals to both girls and boys. As Lily Allen's target audience is mainly young people we have to make the video fun and modern so that it appeals to the younger generation.

I have also looked at some other music videos by Lily Allen and have come up with some basic ideas. The video which I have chosen is by Lily Allen is London. The link for this video is placed below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmYT79tPvLg&feature=channel

Firstly the video uses some shots of drugs, which the song we have chosen is about, so we can use drug references in our music video, knowing that it will appeal to the target audience, as it is been used before in her music videos. Below is a screenshot which I have taken from the video and it shows the way that drugs are also used in this video. We have decided to base our video on drugs, because not only is the song about drug taking, but we can also use it because Lily Allen has used drug related shots and props in her videos, therefore we can appeal to the target audience as they are used to these themes in the video.

I have also noticed that the video is about a journey, as Lily Allen is walking through London and that is the narrative of the video. Our music video is based on a journey of a girl in Brighton, who has been taking drugs. The video uses lots of close up shots of Lily Allen's face, which we will be using in our music video so that you are able to see how the character is feeling and so that you can clearly see her facial expressions. Also the video uses lots of 'jerky' camera movement, so that it makes the video interesting and fun, we also want to use this camera movement in our video, but to create a sense of how the character is feeling (paranoid, worried etc because she is on drugs) and also to make the video more interesting and so that the audience can clearly get a sense of how she is feeling. The video also uses long shots, which show the surroundings and also show Lily Allen clearly and it shows her walking on her 'journey', we will also be using this type of shots to show the journey of our character in the video.

The music video is also set in an urban setting (London) and we are also setting our music video in an urban setting (Brighton) so that the audience can be familiar with the video as Lily Allen's video is also set in a city like our music video. Also the video uses a lot of 'run down' and 'rough' areas, which we also decided to use in our video, as drugs are not associated with being very 'glamorous' but are more stereotyped with homeless people, working class people etc.

I also took another screenshot of the video, which shows how the video uses 'rough' and 'run down' areas.
The video also uses some stereotypes, as the video has shots of 'Chavs' and homeless people which are often associated with these types of areas.
We will also be using locations similar to this in our music video to fit in with the theme of drugs, as drugs are not normally represented with upper class people, so we will be using urban areas in Brighton which are run down.

Throughout this video there are also alot of different shots, which keeps the video interesting and the editing is quite fast which makes it fun for the audience to watch, as there are lots of things going on in the video.
The colours which are used in the video are firstly in some shots quite dark which create a more serious feel in the video, but the video also uses some shots which are bright and fun which make the video happy. In our video we will also be using some shots which are quite dark so that we can create a more serious and unhappy feel in the video, so that the audience are able to feel what Lily Allen is feeling in the video.

From looking and researching Lily Allen's other music videos most of them are quite comical and fun, by the use of colours and the content in the shots. However we have decided not to do this theme for our music video, because drugs are not as comical and I feel the song is more serious, unlike her other songs, so we want to make the music video fit in with the song by not making the music video comical. But we will also be using some shots in a tv room, which will take away the more serious feel of the video, by doing this it will fit in with the rest of Lily Allen's videos as this will make the video fun, which are like her other videos and by doing this it will still be appealing to her target audience, as they are used to Lily Allen having fun and comical music videos.

I have also looked at another music video by Lily Allen called Alfie. The link for the video is below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RgOm_WJKpE

This video is quite different from her other music videos as it is very comical and has a young/cartoony feel about it. The video was quite successful as it won two awards one for Best Pop Video and one for Best New Director CADs Music Vision Awards in June 2007. As this video is quite different from her other videos it received a number of mixed reviews.

The video has a cartoony feel to it as it features Lily Allen as herself and a puppet who is ment to be her little brother. The video starts off with a opening screen like the Looney Tunes opening sequence, which makes the video fun and this also means that young children could also relate to it as they may watch Looney Tunes. The puppet may also appeal to the children, but the video also appeals to older/teenage audiences, as they could relate to having a 'annoying' brother like the puppet is to Lily Allen and also there is some 'adult' humour used in the video, for example the puppet is doing drugs in his room. As the video is fun, it appeals to Lily Allen's target audience as they will want to watch a video which is interesting and fun like this video.

The colours which are used in the video are very bright, which makes the video happy and fun.

Lily Allen is dressed in very bright and 'over the top' girly clothes, which also makes the video fun and interesting to watch for the audience. I think that this video will also appeal to children as the video is fun and uses a puppet, which will make young children interested in the video and therefore liking the song.

Throughout this video the shots are often linked to the lyrics which are being sung in the song for example Lily Allen is ironing a shirt for her brother while looking at the newspaper which has a job advertisment while the line "You need to get a job because the bills need to get paid" is sung by Lily Allen. We also want to use this technique in our video as it makes it effective and also it makes the line stand out and catches the audiences attention, as we want to do this as Lily Allen is expressing in the song how drugs can ruin peoples lifes so we want to portray this in our video so that the message is shown to the audience.

Like in this video we want Lily Allen to be the main focus of the video, so that it is like Lily Allen's other videos and also so people will be familiar with her when they see her in the video.
