Second Shoot

On the 19th January we decided to film some more footage of our music video. As this was lesson time in college the whole of our group was able to attend the shoot. We had arranged to film in the studio room in college and had booked the equipment needed the day before. The equipment which we used for the shot was:
  • camera
  • tripod
  • lighting
  • microphone and stand

Firstly we needed to set up the lighting. So we adjusted the stands on the lighting and then placed them on either side of the camera. We adjusted the position of the lights so that we were able to get the correct amount of light needed for that particular shot.

Next we set up the camera on the tripod and adjusted the settings on the camera so that they were sutiable for indoor use and so that our shot would look ok.

Once we were happy with the position of the lighting we then placed the microphone and stand in front of the camera.

The person who was being filmed then stood in front of the camera so that we could adjust the camera if we needed to, for example if we needed to zoom in or out to get the shot which we needed.

Once everything was set up, we then began filming the footage. After filming a view takes, we looked back on the footage. From looking back at the footage we realised that there was quite alot of shadows in the shot, so we decided that we needed a extra light so that we were able to position the lights so that it meant that the shot had no shadows in it.

First Shoot

On the 18th January we arranged to do our first shoot of our music video. Unfortunately not everyone was able to make that date, so one of the members of our group was unable to attend the first day of filming. As it is very important that we start filming, we decided to go with just the three of us so that we were able to get some footage and begin the music video. The person in our group who was being filmed made sure that she was dressed in the right clothing which would appeal to the target audience and would be similar to Lily Allen.

We met at college and collected the equipment that we needed to film:
  • Video camera
  • Battery ( and a spare battery in case it ran out)
  • Tape
  • Tripod

Before we left college we checked that we had all the correct equipment that we needed to film and we also shot some "test" footage so that we were able to see if there was anything wrong with the camera for example if the lens was dirty. We then made our way to Brighton Pier, which was our first location needed in the video.

When we arrived at Brighton Pier we decided to set up the camera by changing the settings so that it was set up correctly so that we were able to get the best results when filming. Firstly we set the white balance to 'outdoors' as we were filming outside and this would allow us to get the best results. We then locked the camera as this would save the battery life on the camera, but at the same time save our settings which we have made to the camera without having to reset, unlike if we would have turned it on standby.

We then needed to buy our props, so one member from the group went and brought the props which were needed in this shot.

  • drinks can
  • cigarettes
  • lighter

Next we set up the camera on the tripod and then found a sutiable postion in which to film in. We then adjusted the zoom so that we were able to get the same picture which is in our stoaryboards. We then also double checked that the footage looked good and that the camera was set up correctly. We decided to use a clapper board so that we knew the number of the shot being filmed and what number take we were filming, as this would be helpful and make it easier for us when editing our footage, as we could easily tell which shot number we where on and what take we liked best, we simply used a piece of paper to right down the shot number and the take. We were then ready to film.

Before filming we said 'action' so that the person being filmed was able to know when to start performing. We decided to have the music being played to the person so that it made it easier for her to mime to the music, so she had a hidden headphone which was playing the music while being filmed. We filmed this shot about six or seven times as often the miming went slightly wrong and it also allowed us to be confident that we had enough footage. We then also shot the same footage at different angles so that when editing we can cut it together and have different shots but are just at different positions, which I feel will make the video more interesting to watch.

We then continued to film the footage which was needed by following the storyboards and adjusting the position of the camera and tripod. Overall we had over five minutes of footage and we had filmed about eight of the shots on our storyboard.

I was pleased with the footage that we had captured that day, but it made us understand that the amount of time which is needed to have the shots perfect and to have the correct footage.
