Camera Skills

Before going out filming we need to make sure that the camera is working correctly and we have all the correct equipment needed for the production. We need to check the following when going to collect the camera:
  • A tripod plate
  • The Batteries are charged
  • A head cleaning tape, to clean the camera so that we dont have any black lines going across the screen when filming
  • Lint free material to clean the lens
  • Shoot some test footage before leaving and check the quality

Handheld techniques

When out filming we may need to use handheld when filming, so to acheive a smooth and professional finish to our footage we can use these techniques:

  • Use chairs for supporting the camera
  • Use car roofs for also supporting the camera
  • Your body; knees, shoulders to steady and support the camera
  • Hold cam into body and rotate from hips

Before taking a shot we need to make sure that:

  • Use manual settings-shutter speed, focus
  • Clean the lens
  • Set the white balance. As the white balance needs to be set differently when being filmed under flourscent lighting and under natural light.
  • Test shoot and review the footage taken
  • Then take the shot when everything is checked
